Studies done on consumption of cows milk

One of my value customer brought this video to my attention. Is milk necessarily good for our bones? Channel 8 news talks about it.

"Drinking cows milk increases the risk of osteoporosis and increases occurrence of death"

I have learned from Dr Chen Jau Fei through the Science of Nutritional Immunology, that cows milk is not the only source of protein and calcium for us. We can take wholesome plant base Soy for protein and calcium.

If you are worried that soy being unsuitable for children or adult due to the presence of phytoestrogens, you can read more below.

Here are blogs on cows milk and alternative source of protein and calcium. http://thewholesomefood.blogspot.sg/search/label/milk

We are very proud to have Dr Chen Jau Fei to share her knowledge on science of Nutritional Immunology and explained on the nutrition misconceptions. Do take this opportunity to learn more from the experts and contact me at 8332 3173 for more information and to reserve your tickets.

How many times can cooking oil be reused?

Today, I read an interesting article in New Straits Times entitled "How many times can cooking oil be reused?" According to the article, one should avoid reusing oil more than twice or the oil has turned black, smell rancid or has turned thick and sticky [Ref. 1, see excerpt below for full article ].

Should we follow the article guidance? Personally, I will not follow.

I will share why this is a nutrition misconception and why cooking oil should not be reused at all. Reusing cooking oil poses a great danger to people's health.

Here are the reasons [Ref. 2]
1.  Most cooking oils contain small amounts of malondialdehyde - a possibly carcinogenic substance that affects enzymatic activity, speeds up the process of aging, and is cytotoxic. The malondialdehyde level in oil will increase 10 times or more when the oil is used repeatedly.

2. The oil used for deep-frying is kept at higher-than-boiling temperatures for extended periods of time. This causes unsaturated fatty acids (unstable in nature) in plant oils to oxidize continuously, resulting in the formation of harmful, or even carcinogenic, substances.

3. Oil that is used repeatedly will have a lowered smoke point, and toxic substances are produces more easily in such oil.

I learned this knowledge through Dr Chen Jau Fei, renowned Nutritional Immunologist. She is giving a health talk on 26th November. Please details here. Please contact me if you would like to get the ticket.

Is your Omega 3 from safe source?

I knew of many parents who gives fish oil to their kids thinking that the fish oil's omega 3 will be good for their brain.

Find out more from the below article and make an informed choice.

Under the science of Nutritional Immunology, wholesome plant foods provide omega-3 fatty acids without increasing cholesterol intake or depleting vitamin E, while containing healthful antioxidants, phytochemicals and polysaccharides. However, even among plant foods, there are those that are better sources of omega-3. There are several criteria for determining good plant sources of omega-3.

Choose plant foods that contain more omega-3 than omega-6 to make up for high levels of omega-6 elsewhere in one's diet. These include chia seed and kiwi fruit seed. It is also useful to note that wholesome plant foods such as walnuts contain omega-3, they have higher levels of omega-6.

Is cow's milk good for us?

Is cow's milk really good for us? Do you think cow's milk is for human consumption?

Have you ever ponder about this question before?

Since young, we have been told about the goodness of dairy product, i.e. excellent sources of protein and calcium.

So I always thought that milk is the only good source for protein and calcium, that's why I consumed pregnancy milk powder during my first pregnancy.

However, when I realised that my second son has cow's milk protein allergy I started doing some research on this topic.

Now, let us start from: Is milk really a good source for calcium?

Do you know that USA has a much high percentage of people getting osteoporosis as compared to Japan? Just simply look at the diet of normal North Americans, their diet is rich in dairy products such as milk, cheese, etc. But why are the North Americans still have a high percentage of osteoporosis patients despite their dairy rich diet?

Why most of the world does not eat dairy products and do not have bone problems and calcium deficiency?

There must be something terribly wrong with the message that milk (and milk products) will give us healthy bones.

Debunking The Milk Myth: Why Milk Is Bad For You And Your Bones

Milk depletes the calcium from your bones

The milk myth has spread around the world based on the flawed belief that this protein and calcium-rich drink is essential to support good overall health and bone health in particular at any age. It is easy to understand that the confusion about milk’s imaginary benefits stems from the fact that it contains calcium – around 300 mg per cup.

But many scientific studies have shown an assortment of detrimental health effects directly linked to milk consumption. And the most surprising link is that not only do we barely absorb the calcium in cow’s milk (especially if pasteurized), but to make matters worse, it actually increases calcium loss from the bones.

What an irony this is!

Here’s how it happens. Like all animal protein, milk acidifies the body pH which in turn triggers a biological correction. You see, calcium is an excellent acid neutralizer and the biggest storage of calcium in the body is – you guessed it… in the bones. So the very same calcium that our bones need to stay strong is utilized to neutralize the acidifying effect of milk. Once calcium is pulled out of the bones, it leaves the body via the urine, so that the surprising net result after this is an actual calcium deficit.

Knowing this, you’ll understand why statistics show that countries with the lowest consumption of dairy products also have the lowest fracture incidence in their population (there’s more on this later).
But the sad truth is that most mainstream health practitioners ignore these proven facts. I was brought up thinking drinking milk is good, until I came to know more from Nutritional Immunology.

Oxyginberry vs Collagen products

Some collagen users sent me inquiries about Oxyginberry from my previous post.  If you are currently taking collagen products, please read this.

In recent years, collagen products have been actively linked to the topic of Anti-Aging. There have been many beauty and health companies introduced a wide range of collagen products for those wishing to stay young and have smooth skin etc. We see many advertisement in the newspaper, advertisement board at MRT station and magazines. Are these advertise products safe and giving us the results we want?

The usual feedback from most collagen users, is that collagen only gives short term results. User will experience the skin returns to its previous condition within a few weeks once the product consumtion is stop. The reason for this is collagen breaks down easily, especially under direct sunlight. This is why constant supplementation is necessary. Check out following youtube.

Is it wise to spend money for such short-term results when a long term investment like nourishing the body immune system and delay aging is needed?
Collagen cannot be absorbed into the body when taken orally as it has been proven clinically that the body is incapable of absorbing direct intake of Collagen.
Synthetic collagen marketers wants you to believe that there is no difference between naturally occurring collagen and synthetic because the synthetic are easier to produce and thus carry a much higher profit margin.. Oxyginberry (6 food synergy) is able to help the body to produce large amount of collagen and nourish the body immune system.
Most of us have been led to believe that majority of supplements are nature's own ingredients. But the sad truth is that in the case of commercially mass produced collagen, they are synthetic hormone or animal placentaMost collagen will be destroyed during our digestion process. Besides that, collagen in the market have a lot of preservatives which are harmful to our body if taken in the long run.
Your supplement manufacturers maintain that this type of synthetic collagen is identical and just as effective as the naturally occurring collagen produces in our body . They are not.
Scientists have never successfully created an  orange from scratch in a laboratory! We always have to eat food made by nature instead of chemically process food.
Likewise, neither can scientist create synthetic nutrients that exactly duplicate or replace naturally occurring collagen we need in our body.
